An Exceptional New Patient Experience: You’ve Found Your New Dentist
Your first visit to Smiles by Arnold & Associates will be exceptional, and it’s probably the most important dental appointment that you will ever have. We will schedule enough time to get to know you, and for you to get to know us. It’s essential that we take the time to learn your dental “wants” and needs so that we can help to determine your priorities. As we get to know you, we’ll let you know what to expect from us, as well.
Either our Chesterton and Valparaiso team will spend some time asking you questions and carefully listening to your answers. We’ll discuss your previous dental experiences, your current concerns, and any goals that you have for your oral health. This is essential so that we understand what kind of dental care you want and/or need. We’ll also take any necessary dental x-rays and digital photos. Sometimes we’ll even make models of your teeth if it will help us to plan your care.
Your thorough new patient examination will include:
- An oral cancer screening
- TMJ and periodontal evaluations
- A careful evaluation of each tooth
During your first exam, we will carefully explain what we see, and we will spend time educating you as to how to better care for your teeth and gums. Our goal for you is a lifetime of optimal oral health. However, we will never judge you or your past oral health decisions.
While we examine your gums and the bone that support your teeth, we will decide what type of “cleaning” we recommend for you and how much time it will take. If it is a routine situation, we usually have time available to do a great job at the new patient appointment. Some patients will require more time, however, especially if it has been a long time since their last exam and cleaning. In these cases, we schedule another appointment(s) to ensure a great result.
Patients in Northwest Indiana and around the country are more likely to have gum disease if they haven’t kept up a regular routine of having their teeth cleaned. Depending upon the severity of the disease, anesthetic is sometimes needed to get the job done comfortably.
One of the goals of our new patient experience is to establish a positive relationship based on trust and mutual respect. We will never rush through this appointment because it’s essential to know exactly what is happening in your mouth, and what can be done to improve and maintain excellent oral health.
Please call our office in Valpo at (219) 531-8914, or Chesterton at (219) 926-5445 for a free consultation or a new patient exam. You will be glad you called!
