Lasers in Dentistry
Lasers offer higher quality treatments, better outcomes, and greater comfort for the patient. Learn More About Lasers in Dentistry.
One of the major benefits of laser dentistry is the lack of pain associated with lasers. Laser dentistry is ideal for persons who have dental anxiety related to needles. Lasers often require no numbing or injections, so you won’t have to worry about needles.
At our practice, we use the latest in dental laser technology. Our dental laser is the WaterLase©©. This particular laser utilizes energized water droplets, allowing us to perform both hard tooth and bone procedures, and soft tissue gum procedures. These lasers have a variety of uses, including recontouring gum tissue, removing fibromas, crown lengthening, and many other procedures.
At our practice, we want you to have as little dental anxiety as possible. By avoiding painful procedures, we can make your dental experience much easier, and in fact, enjoyable! We never want you to be anxious about maintaining your dental health, and we want dentistry to be a positive aspect of your life. We believe that using these painless procedures is a positive step in helping our patients become more comfortable with dental work.
One of the most important things we do for our patients is identify and fill cavities. Now, we can identify cavities at the very early stages of decay with a painless laser cavity detector called a DIAGNOdent.
DIAGNOdent is a way to detect cavities with the ultimate precision. Unlike painful poking and prodding, using DIAGNOdent will allow us to detect sub-surface lesions and decay without painful exploratory techniques. This innovative laser detector works by detecting tooth substances and bacteria fluoresce by exposing them to a very specific wavelength of light.
Specifically, this laser detector operates at a wavelength of 655mm. This is the wavelength at which healthy tooth structure exhibits minuscule or no fluorescence. As a result, very low-scale readings are on the DIAGNOdent display. If any substantial anomalies in the tooth structure are present, such as decay, they will be present on the DIAGNOdent display.
Additionally, the device works by using an audio signal to detect these problems, which in turn allows us to focus specifically on you, the patient.
Porcelain Veneers or Laminates
Porcelain veneers or laminates can provide a solution for people who have chipped, stained, discolored, unevenly spaced, or slightly crooked front teeth to create a new, beautiful smile in just a few simple appointments!
Veneers have a variety of uses, and in many cases they can completely restore our patients’ smiles. Essentially, getting a set of veneers is an investment in yourself. This is because veneers can give you a luminous smile that rivals nature. These porcelain coverings are as thin as a contact lens, yet they have the same durability as natural tooth enamel.
They can fix all of the aforementioned problems and they have a life span between 10 and 20 years! Getting a set of porcelain veneers is a wonderful smile enhancement choice for many of our patients.
In fact, porcelain veneers can serve as an alternative to other cosmetic procedures. It is important to consult a cosmetic dentist regarding your options with veneers, but rest-assured that veneers can give you a beautiful smile in no time flat!

Breakthrough Treatment for Bruxism
Sometimes chronic stress or high-pressure situations can cause people to develop a damaging habit known as bruxism, or unconsciously biting down with too much force at non-mealtimes. Sound familiar? To learn more about our breakthrough treatment for bruxism, visit our migraine treatment page.
At our practice, we realize the importance of being headache-free. This is why we use only the best technology to rid you of bruxism to relieve your headaches.
We use the NTI™ appliance, which has changed the lives of hundreds of people since it was introduced in the 1990s. Since 2003, Smiles by Arnold & Associates has helped hundreds of people get relief from their migraines.
This appliance is comfortable to wear, and is much smaller than traditional night guards, fitting comfortably over your teeth. This appliance works by decreasing the amount of force applied to the jaw and the temporal muscles.
By reducing the tension, the NTI appliance reduces both the incidence and intensity of your migraines. In fact, according to national studies, 82% of patients see a 75% reduction in number, duration, and intensity of migraine headaches.
Our dental professionals would be very happy to help you rid yourself of migraine headaches, and show you the benefits of the NTI mouth guard.
Amalgams: Why Not?
There’s some debate in the dental industry regarding the pros and cons of using silver fillings, or dental amalgams, to fill cavities. At our office, we exclusively use composite resins for several reasons.
Amalgams use silver that is composed of elements of mercury. In the dental world, this can be regarded as a risk. This is why we use composite resins to restore your teeth. Composite resins are safer, and with new advances in technology, composite resins often restore your teeth better than traditional silver fillings.
Not to mention, composite resins have a more natural aesthetic, and are much more unnoticeable than silver fillings. At our practice, we certainly desire to keep your self-esteem a top-priority, and we know that your self-confidence is very important. This is why we try to incorporate dental practices, such as composite resin fillings, to keep your smile looking natural and beautiful.
Before you decide to get silver fillings, explore your options. You may very well find that composite resin fillings have more advantages, and can improve your smile in more constructive ways than silver fillings…read more
If you’ve lost teeth due to accident, injury, or gum disease, we can create a permanent ‘bridge’ appliance to replace the missing teeth.
A fixed bridge has several advantages over traditional dentures, and we can use dental implants to secure these bridges. Unlike traditional dentures, bridges require less tooth alteration, and therefore can give you a more natural aesthetic. Bridges require lower maintenance than traditional dentures. Just remember, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice multiple teeth to replace a few missing ones.
At our practice, we definitely want to find the best solution to meet your needs. In many instances, bridges are a viable method of smile restoration. Again, we keep your self-esteem in mind, and we realize that you need to have a beautiful smile in addition to a healthy smile.
If you are interested in learning more about dental bridges, our dentists would love to help. By exploring this option, you may find that bridges are the perfect solution for your missing teeth.
Brushing Right Can Save Your Life
Although most people are aware of the reasons behind proper, daily tooth brushing, few people realize that clean teeth and healthy gums can protect against a wide variety of general, even life-threatening health problems!
New research has shown that gum disease and periodontal disease affect more than just your dental health. Periodontal disease has been linked to several life-threatening illnesses, such as heart disease and heart attacks. Diabetes is also linked to periodontal disease, and periodontal disease is often a first sign of these conditions.
Periodontal disease can lead to blocked arteries and other problems because these bacteria can leak into your bloodstream through dental decay.
It’s important to remember that taking care of your oral health is essential to your whole-body well-being. Many individuals do not realize the drastic ways oral health can affect your body, and we strive to educate our patients about the essential nature of dental hygiene.
We also try to remind our patients how essential it is to get routine check-ups, and to look out for periodontal problems, in addition to maintaining proper oral hygiene.
